Horst Ludwig, born in 1946, - nominated for the Artist OF EUROPE AWARD 2024 in Florence -  is a renowned artist with many years of experience and great expertise in the field of painting. Since his childhood, animals, especially horses, have accompanied him as loyal companions. In his youth, Horst Ludwig spent a lot of time in the old churches and cathedrals of the former GDR, where he often supported painters and picture restorers. In the community of freelance painters, he learned various painting techniques, and his talent was recognized and encouraged early on. This time had a lasting impact on his passion for painting.

Horst Ludwig is the proud father of two daughters. After 57 happy years of marriage, he lost the love of his life in February 2023. Despite this loss, the shared love of Arabian thoroughbreds and their breeding continues to shape everyday life on the family estate near Stralsund on the island of Rügen, where he lives and works as a free spirit and artist. His studio, affectionately called "Kleckshäuschen", is called "al Kuhl," derived from the Arabic word "al-kuhl," which for him symbolizes the beauty, elegance and grace of Arabian horses as well as the trust and deep bond between humans and animals.

Horst Ludwig's passion for horses and life in all its facets is impressively reflected in his works. The painter exhibits regularly and his studio is open to visitors, who are always welcome.

Artistic approach

The dynamics of horse, man and landscape"

In his passionate painting, Horst Ludwig combines the powerful elegance of Arabian horses, the deep emotions of human portraits and the vast beauty of landscapes in a harmonious interplay of color, form and movement. Using versatile painting techniques ranging from impressionistic color plays to expressive brushstrokes, Ludwig creates a world in which the boundaries between reality and imagination are fluid.

The Arabian horses, symbols of grace, strength and freedom, are not only depicted as animals in his works, but as living beings that radiate a deep emotional resonance. Every muscle movement, every rearing up and every whisper in the wind is captured with an intense expression that reflects the soul of these majestic creatures.

Alongside the horses, people are the focus of his paintings - in all their complexity and multi-layeredness. Ludwig portrays people in different moments of life: in silence and contemplation, in dynamism and passion. He uses various techniques to make the depth and nuances of human emotions visible.

The landscapes that frame Ludwig's works are more than just backdrops. They are breathing, living elements that carry the scenes and give them a special atmosphere. Whether it is the vast deserts, rolling hills or dense forests, each landscape is imbued with a mood that enhances the action and transports the viewer to another world.

Ludwig's versatility in the use of techniques allows him to capture the energy and emotion of each subject. He experiments with bold colors, different textures and varying perspectives to create an intense visual experience that appeals to both the eyes and the heart.

His art is a reflection of his passion and dedication. It invites the viewer to see the world through the eyes of an artist who captures not only the visible, but also the invisible, the emotional and the spiritual - a world that tells of the beauty of Arabian horses, the depth of the human spirit and the power of nature.
