Black And White Photography
I Photograph Landscapes Practically Only In Black And White With A Predilection For Film Which Remains At The Same Time. In My Opinion The Only Technique Capable Of Reproducing Shades Of Gray And Which Gives A Succession Of Different Planes Much Less Marked Than The Digital Image.
I Appreciate This Technique Even More As I Like To Take My Photos In Foggy Environments Or In The Rain.
The Grain Generated Using ILFORD Or KODAK Film Then Fills The Skies Of My Photos Which I Want To Be As Uniform As Possible In Order To Highlight The Purity Of The Images. Lines In Minimalist Universes.
Despite My Taste For "social" Photography, My Landscapes Are Practically Always Desert. (This Is Also A Criticism That Was Made To Me During My Exhibition On Nantes Town Planning; The Visitor Asked Me What The Point Of An Exhibition On The City Was If Its Inhabitants Were Not Represented!)
This Sobriety Is For Me A Bias Which Reinforces The Depth Of The Image By Giving Free Rein To The Image. Imagination; These Places Could Come Alive Any Time Like During Summer On The Vendée Coast Or Staying Still During The Winter Which Remains My Favorite Period Of Photographic Wandering
To Make These Shots, I Work With Medium Format Material Which Invites You To Take Pictures. Slowness And Reflection, Totally Out Of Step With The Consumerist Photography Of Smartphones And Other Gadgetized Compacts!
