But one of the most significant moments in its history came at the beginning of the last century, when it miraculously survived the devastating eruption of Mount Pelee in Martinique. In 1902, while in the Caribbean region, the Belem witnessed the deadly eruption of Mount Pelee, which devastated the city of Saint-Pierre. Thanks to the prudence of its captain and the robustness of its construction, the Belem was able to escape the flames and ash that engulfed the region. This ordeal marked the history of the ship, testifying to its resilience and strength in the face of nature's most devastating elements.
