At low tide, a moored boat rests on the muddy bottom of the Arcachon Bay, whose water level has dropped significantly, revealing a vast expanse of clear mud. The boat, typically a pinasse or other type of fishing boat, is partially beached on the mud, with its hulls resting almost directly on the soft ground. The reflection of the boat in the mud creates a striking mirror effect. The surface of the mud, slightly damp and smooth, accurately reflects the silhouette of the boat, its details and its colours. The colours of the boat – often natural wood with touches of bright paint – blend with the brown and green hues of the mud, creating an interesting visual contrast. The lines of the boat, as well as its equipment and accessories, are faithfully reproduced in the reflection, offering a double view of the same subject.
