This painting captures the moment when the sea, drunk with movement, caresses the shore with the passion of an embrace. The wave rises, dances for a moment in the light, then collapses into a vaporous foam that gently disappears onto the sand. The deep blue of the ocean blends into the sky, a fine and serene horizon line where everything seems suspended. The discreet shadow of the sea spray suggests the breathing of the water, its continuous murmur, its promise of eternity. The sand, soft and warm under an absent but guessed sun, still bears the trace of the wind and the surf, like an ephemeral memory that the sea will soon erase. There is in this scene a quiet power, a fragile balance between tumult and peace, a silent call to travel or to reverie. The frozen moment nevertheless vibrates with a perpetual movement, and the eye, captivated, almost hears the light crashing of the waves, the distant complaint of an endless ocean.
About the artist
Born in Montmartre in 1963, painting and writing have allowed Sako, whose real name is Serge Armagan, to put words to his pain. A painter for 40 years, but having always painted, he acknowledges that he is only just beginning to understand that the quest for excellence is a life's work and never ends. This humility, this quest for visual emotion that we offer to the gaze of others, are the guiding principles of his work.
