Sako's oil paintings exude an atmosphere that is both serene and lively, where light and contrasts play a key role. The texture of the canvas, accentuated by the brushwork, lends a palpable density to the elements depicted, whether it be a rough sea, a stormy sky, or the softness of filtered light. The artist seems to capture a suspended moment, where the gaze is lost in the nuances and depth of the landscape.
The colors intertwine harmoniously, with deep blues and bright whites sculpting the shapes. Reflections and shadows are subtly crafted, bringing the water and sky to life in a constant dialogue between calm and storm. The painterly gesture is assertive, revealing a sensitivity that oscillates between precision and spontaneity, as if each brushstroke conveyed a fleeting emotion. The whole thing exudes an undeniable strength, where we perceive a deep attachment to nature.
About the artist
Born in Montmartre in 1963, painting and writing have allowed Sako, whose real name is Serge Armagan, to put words to his pain. A painter for 40 years, but having always painted, he acknowledges that he is only just beginning to understand that the quest for excellence is a life's work and never ends. This humility, this quest for visual emotion that we offer to the gaze of others, are the guiding principles of his work.
