This painting by Sako, titled "Colimasson," captures the powerful and hypnotic momentum of a wave in a row, seemingly unfolding into infinity, like a marine spiral.
The bird's-eye perspective transports us to the heart of this majestic wave, whose crest twists in a sinuous and continuous movement, evoking both the raw force of the ocean and the fluid softness of a masterful brushstroke. The play of light on the foam highlights the green and blue transparency of the water, traversed by deep, almost abyssal shadows, reinforcing the sense of depth.
This roll of foam, both regular and organic, seems to symbolize an eternal movement, a kind of natural dance that merges power and harmony. The scene is so immersive that we can hear the dull roar of the water and smell the salt in the air. The whole thing gives off a fascinating, almost meditative energy, as if one were sucked into the whirlwind of life.
About the artist
Born in Montmartre in 1963, painting and writing have allowed Sako, whose real name is Serge Armagan, to put words to his pain. A painter for 40 years, but having always painted, he acknowledges that he is only just beginning to understand that the quest for excellence is a life's work and never ends. This humility, this quest for visual emotion that we offer to the gaze of others, are the guiding principles of his work.
