Description
This painting by Sako powerfully captures the suspended moment of a wave about to break. The artist captures the raw energy of the ocean in a palette of deep greens and foamy whites that blend into a vibrant swirl. The perfectly straight horizon line contrasts with the tormented movement of the water, accentuating the opposition between calm and tumult. The sky, a pale and serene blue, seems almost unreal in its peacefulness. Light plays a central role, illuminating the wave from within and revealing its transparencies and nuances. The freshness and strength of the sea breeze are perceived in the texture of the foam. Each brushstroke evokes a controlled, almost hypnotic fluidity. The beach in the foreground is barely visible, soft and melted, like a fading memory. The whole gives off a feeling of raw, wild, and untamed freedom. It is a work that invites both contemplation and escape.

About the artist

Born in Montmartre in 1963, painting and writing have allowed Sako, whose real name is Serge Armagan, to put words to his pain. A painter for 40 years, but having always painted, he acknowledges that he is only just beginning to understand that the quest for excellence is a life's work and never ends. This humility, this quest for visual emotion that we offer to the gaze of others, are the guiding principles of his work.
