Jean-François Zanette always drew but he came to the oil painting only between the end of 1990s and the early 2000s, as self-taught at first, studying in numerous art books, then by following during two years the painting classes of the painter Arnaud Seynave, to acquire bases allowing him to continue alone his quest of a personal style and to express what he hold dear to his heart. Through an often colored and contrasted figurative expression in which he looks for the light, his paintings contains stories, or fragments of stories, which the spectator is invited to reconstitute or to reinvent according to several possible but which always send back to the solitude and to the incommunicability. He has a preference for the characters seen from the back, what underlines their isolation and gives them an enigmatic character, and for the hats which constitute de facto a recurring theme and can even become the main object, relegating the characters to the rank of accessories, what confirms their precariousness. ---------------------------------------------- Listed in the quotation Akoun since 2016.
