Description
The image shows two riders standing with their backs to the viewer, looking into the distance where a storm is approaching. The sky is painted in dramatic dark blue tones, punctuated by roiling, white-gray clouds that herald the approaching storm. The riders remain still on their horses, their posture tense, as if they are observing and waiting for the force of nature.
The landscape in the foreground is painted in subtle gray and slightly brownish tones, giving the scene a barren and harsh mood. The surroundings seem quiet and almost deserted, as if the calm before the storm has taken hold of the land. The horses, also painted in muted colors, stand quietly while the riders stare into the gloomy, cloud-covered expanse of the sky. The image conveys a sense of expectation and tension as nature prepares for the impending storm

Horst Ludwig, born in 1946, - nominated for the Artist OF EUROPE AWARD 2024 in Florence - is a renowned artist with many years of experience and great expertise in the field of painting. Since his childhood, animals, especially horses, have accompanied him as loyal companions. In his youth, Horst Ludwig spent a lot of time in the old churches and cathedrals of the former GDR, where he often supported painters and picture restorers. In the community of freelance painters, he learned various painting techniques, and his talent was recognized and encouraged early on. This time had a lasting impact on his passion for painting.
Horst Ludwig is the proud father of two daughters. After 57 happy years of marriage, he lost the love of his life in February 2023. Despite this loss, the shared love of Arabian thoroughbreds and their breeding continues to shape everyday life on the family estate near Stralsund on the island of Rügen, where he lives and works as a free spirit and artist. His studio, affectionately called "Kleckshäuschen", is called "al Kuhl," derived from the Arabic word "al-kuhl," which for him symbolizes the beauty, elegance and grace of Arabian horses as well as the trust and deep bond between humans and animals.
Horst Ludwig's passion for horses and life in all its facets is impressively reflected in his works. The painter exhibits regularly and his studio is open to visitors, who are always welcome.
