Description
The oil painting captures a powerful, sunlit scene in which a group of cowboys set off from right to left in a wild gallop. The bright daylight bathes the scene in an intense glow, emphasizing the dusty ground that blends with the sun's rays and appears to shimmer. The cowboys ride forward at a rapid pace as if entering a chase, their bodies tense, hats pulled low over their faces, and their horses in full swing. In the background, more saddled, restless horses can be seen, held by cowboys who are about to mount to follow the group in front. The entire scene conveys a sense of tense anticipation as the cowboys are in a synchronized departure. The landscape and surroundings are depicted schematically and without clear contours, which puts the focus on the energy and drama of the gallop.

Horst Ludwig, born in 1946, - nominated for the Artist OF EUROPE AWARD 2024 in Florence - is a renowned artist with many years of experience and great expertise in the field of painting. Since his childhood, animals, especially horses, have accompanied him as loyal companions. In his youth, Horst Ludwig spent a lot of time in the old churches and cathedrals of the former GDR, where he often supported painters and picture restorers. In the community of freelance painters, he learned various painting techniques, and his talent was recognized and encouraged early on. This time had a lasting impact on his passion for painting.
Horst Ludwig is the proud father of two daughters. After 57 happy years of marriage, he lost the love of his life in February 2023. Despite this loss, the shared love of Arabian thoroughbreds and their breeding continues to shape everyday life on the family estate near Stralsund on the island of Rügen, where he lives and works as a free spirit and artist. His studio, affectionately called "Kleckshäuschen", is called "al Kuhl," derived from the Arabic word "al-kuhl," which for him symbolizes the beauty, elegance and grace of Arabian horses as well as the trust and deep bond between humans and animals.
Horst Ludwig's passion for horses and life in all its facets is impressively reflected in his works. The painter exhibits regularly and his studio is open to visitors, who are always welcome.
