Gore

Gore is a photographer who has traveled to the four corners of the globe to share such familiar landscapes with the world unknown. From the Sierras of California via the Na Pali coast of Hawaii or the Italian Dolomites, the artist photographer delivers landscape photographs that invite us to travel when our eyes fall on them.

From chemist student to photographer

Ted Gore's father handed over his son a digital camera before he traveled to the California coast. During the trip, while Gore shows his father a photograph that he captured, the latter explains to him «that it is easy to take beautiful photos of beautiful things». He then advises him «to take beautiful photos of not beautiful things». He then set out to capture the beauty of in the dark and the unexpected.

During his last year at At Georgia Tech, as a student to become a chemist, the future photographer discovers a new passion for computer graphics, video and filmmaking. Opening the field of possibilities takes him on a new path which will lead him to Los Angeles where he works as a graphic designer on numerous television and film projects. Indeed, because of his career, the photographer was able to improve himself by succeeding in compose and arrange the elements of a scene so that «they are more pleasant to view. l’œil».

Photographs or images?

Thanks to; the study of color theory, which he finds largely under-exploited, Gore believes he has brought new ideas to life. his landscape photographs take a different perspective from those of his colleagues. By combining this theory and digital imagery in order to create photographs likely to evoke feelings in the viewer, the photographer creates something new and unique in the world of landscape photography.
His images are so striking that he even has toqualify his work as «photography». If it is true that they are magnificent and that they revolutionize the classic landscape photographs, it is above all because he creates a sort of post- treatment his images that he prefers to use the term image» «photography». Gore sums up his work as follows: «My vision of the images I create is more about to evoke the emotion and feeling of the place of which I made the image». By carrying out different treatments on his photographs to make them «images», the photographer tries to go «beyond’ of what the camera alone» propose. Its interest is to bring a little extra to the world. his image so that the viewer can have feelings while admiring his «images».

The photographer's technique

This photographer does not claim to be an illustrator. All his «images» come from traditional photography. The artist photographer captures a scene of the landscape and applies various exposures as well as numerous post-processings to bring the scene to life. his works which he describes as ’images». This photographic artist prefers to be defined as a visual artist who uses numerous tools to create striking images in a unique way. like the master manipulators of the darkroom.
The artist photographer assures that all the landscape photographs he was able to take are not inventions. Indeed, he does not wish to «&be hypocritical about the place». All images created by the photographer are taken from landscapes that actually exist and he has not modified them. no items. All it does is combine «two images taken at the same time. two different focal lengths» as he explains with the example of the cloud. If the latter does not appear in his landscape photograph, he makes sure to take it so that he can then integrate it into the decor of his photograph. The cloud was certainly absent in the photograph that he initially took, but nonetheless, it was definitely part of his experience when he was present on the scene. Ultimately, the photographer's wish is to create the most beautiful image possible of the place where the photographer is located. it turns out that. This is his definition of «making art at home. from nature».

«Naupaka’s Journey»

This photograph illustrates what Gore is trying to explain to us. Due to the enormous depth of field, it would have been easier for him to do so. impossible to obtain sharpness flowers in the foreground as well as peaks in the background. background. To get there, he had toû Take two photographs by manually focusing from the closest point to the next point. infinity. He explains that he did «an exposure in small increments within the focus range». The software he uses afterwards allows him to combine all his photographs to create a single image that is as striking as the vision he had when he was on the scene. Gore has this ability; to create images that have a perfect balance between naturalism and intensity. Although they are vivid, the colors of his images do not take over the structure of the scene.
For the artist photographer, it is important not to change colors of his landscape photography to the point of creating something artificial which would not seem natural to the viewer and which, moreover, would come to the fore. Transform the pre-established frame of reference. Indeed, the grass is green, the sky is blue, just like the sea and the lakes. Wanting to create a purple sky to create a more harmonious image means taking the risk that the viewer will reject the image, because it, even if it is beautiful, absolutely does not represent what that he is used to seeing. For this photographer, the idea is to create a set of photographs and, if some colors are not in harmony, to make minor changes. Thus, Gore specifies that "this amounts to changing the green of the grass to a green-yellow, a green-green or a green-blue if one of the two works better".
