Alain Buriez was born in 1958 in Paris, His production is very wide, and extends on a vast range. It includes the realistic pictures of his first paintings, which are mostly landscapes showing the Provence, seascapes and swamps. From the mid-1990s onward, his paintings are larger, wider, bearing the influence of chinese painters, like Zao Wou Ki or Chu-The – Chun, which gradually become more abstract. Alain Buriez thinks he would probably not have become a painter, if he hadn’t been encouraged by his family. It was thanks to his step-father, a well-known painter, that he became aware of what was going to turn out to be his passion. If he had had the opportunity to get university education, he would have become a nature scientist. As a self-made man, he very quickly felt the need to move away from the academic, or traditional painting, in order to find elsewhere another source of inspiration. He nowadays goes along his personal way of painting abstract landscapes.His painting is the result of the meanderings of his meditating spirit, as an atonement for a painful childhood. The artist plays upon the ductility and flexibility of its pigments and various materials. He paints a colorful universe, sometimes violent, sometimes deep, making the nuances of his palette ever more vivid, on the canvass. All these nuances convey his masterworks a vibrant density, which creates, sometimes a secret, sometimes a fantasy, sometimes again a vision. From the mid-1990s, the size of his canvasses becomes larger, wider, the colors, more vivid, the gestures, more powerful. The tensions are intensified through the clash between very vivid strokes and transparent backgrounds. No wonder if the titles of his works all bear a reference to Nature:”Mineral Transparency”, “Spring in a Hazy Atmosphere”, “Red Glacier”, “Moon World”. The bi-dimensional abstraction is blown away into the vast, moving space of the ocean, or the sky. The artist has been awarded a certain number of Prizes. The latest are: 2010: Prix de la ville de Rambouillet 2012 : Prix de la Marine He has also been involved in various Salons. : Exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants.
