Alejandro RODRIGUEZ SARDIÑAS (born in Havana in 1973) is an artist with a diploma from the Academy of Fine Art of San Alejandro (1992), who offers us his own unique treatment of imaginary landscapes. Cuba and Guyana, where he lived for several years, form his principal inspiration making for works of very great force. Nature is omni-present in his luxuriant imaginary landscapes. His canvases surprise us by their depth and perspective, combining vivid colour contrasts and a very personal technique, that in the end creates the illusion that these are landscape photographs. His collages underline the encroachment of the modern world into nature which is gradually reclaiming its rights. Rather than describe the paintings, it may be better to stress the emotions that give birth to them..... We are as a bird discovering the terrain from the sky. Alejandro is not only an artist whose works merit our attention but also a personality of great charm and sensitivity ... Interview with Alejandro RODRIGUEZ SARDIÑAS concerning his work : « It is a gestual realism in which the application of colour constitutes the principal element in the composition. I do not claim to capture the landscape photographically, rather to give physical expression to my emotions, with the capricious nature of drawing and colour as my starting point. My aim is to get the spectator to interiorise the concept of 'landscape' and to draw him or her into the mood of the painting (...). My interest is to combine a number of elements without affecting the overall composition, and, as well, satisfy my desire to 'escape'».
