Artistic approach

Antoine Juliens - whose real name is Jean-Louis Richard -, received training in visual arts at a university in Paris. the Saint-Luc school in Brussels and theater in Brussels. the Louvain Institute of Broadcasting Arts.

Henri Van Lier (philosopher), Pierre Laroche and Pierre Debauche (directors) as well as Jean Duvignaud, Jean Rouvet and Denis Bablet (CNRS) open his way to questioning the ;art and the world.

 

Director, playwright and painter, Antoine Juliens is artistic director of TEATR’OPERA, a company he created in 1991 with Isabelle Maudet (actress and assistant game director).

He puts on around fifty shows in France and abroad. abroad, initiating the form of theatrical oratorio, and is inspired by ancient and modern texts: Maeterlinck, Shakespeare, Dante, Attâr, Goethe, Gogol, Claudel, Rilke, Baudry, Beckett, Norén, Mirbeau and his friends Henri Meschonnic and Pierre Klossowski. 

 

Among his main productions, Antoine Juliens created:

The Aeneidtheatrical adaptation based on the text of Virgil, translation by Pierre Klossowski (French tour),

Nuit Dantesque, translation of The Divine Comedyby Dante for the Colla Voce Festival in Poitiers (Planetarium and National Museum of the Holy Cross),

The Mystery of Conversion by Paul Claudel, theatrical oratorio in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris. Paris, for the 50th anniversary of the death of Paul Claudel. Creation for Actors, Opera Artists (Opera National de Paris) and Organists,

Au Bois Lacté, opera by François Narboni based on Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas for the Metz Opera, Offenbach On Stage< /em>, opera-theater based on the works and life of Offenbach in Ile-de-France (in connection with the Musée d’Orsay).

 

In 2010, he founded VERBE SACRÉ, a cultural event with 10 years of theatrical creations on the historic site of Landévennec (Brittany). In 2018, 60 tables linked to; his achievements are exhibited in the auditorium.

 

As part of INTERREG, he carried out in July 2014 at Virton (Belgian Luxembourg), Oratorio for Peace, major commemorative show of the Battle of the Three Borders with more than 500 participants (professionals and amateurs).

65 paintings created as part of the show are exhibited in the cellars of the Hôtel de Ville de Virton.

Around fifty works are today part of the historical and cultural heritage of the War Museum in Paris. Latour (Baillet-Latour Foundation, Belgium).

 

In 2017, Antoine Juliens wrote and directed RÉDEMPTION or the madness of always better. Creation for the centenary of Octave Mirbeau, at the ROx in Paris. Rouvroy and at the Bertrix Cultural Center. In parallel, 60 tables linked to Theatrical creation is presented in the Cultural Centers in Ardennes and Gaume.

This ensemble is today part of the cultural collection of a philosophical association in Brittany (Brest, Quimper, Lorient, Vannes, Nantes).

 

Antoine Juliens ensured; awareness training in artistic disciplines throughout the world the EAC Paris (Ecole des Professions de la Culture) and, from 2015 to 2015. 2019, and direction of the play and staging for Lyric Artists at l’Internationale Sommerakademie am Rhein (Germany).

 

He stages operas and musical works: Handel, Offenbach, Stockhausen, Messiaen, and works with composers and performing artists: Ensembles Soli-Tutti and Musicatreize, Michel Musseau, Fabien Tehericsen, Thierry Pécou, Alain Celo, François Narboni, Michel Boédec, Thierry Chleide and interprets the texts of Claudel and Péguy with Jean-Pierre Leguay, Organist Emeritus of the cathé ;drale of Notre-Dame de Paris.

For Jean-Pierre Leguay, he created the visuals for the CD “Improvisations Orgue et Piano (2022)” and the cover of “Portrait of a Composer and Improviser” (2019). He works in recitals with the pianist Xavier Bouchaud “Productions chez nous”, and the cellist Raphaël Chrétien.

 

The Genius of Contemporary Marquetry, GEMAC, calls on him for the scenographies of the Salons Matères & Meaningà Paris 11th in 2012 and 2013, as well as’à the Orangery of the Senate (Paris) in August 2013.

Exhibitions of paintings, the basis of his theatrical work, at the Paris Salon XIè (Olympe de Gouges) and in Galerie du Marais (Paris).

 

 

Antoine Juliens receives support from the Beaumarchais Foundation (Paris) for his opera libretto El-Gabal.

In 2019, the Godefroid Culture was awarded to him. by the Province of Luxembourg for all of his work.

 

From June 2021 to September 2022, at At the invitation of the Governor of the Province of Luxembourg, he exhibited at the Provincial Palace of Arlon 80 paintings inspired by the Ardennes and Gaume, “Pictorial Rhapsody”.

The whole constitutes a heritage fund in the Province of Luxembourg and, since July 2023, a selection (paintings and triptychs) represents the Province at its best. the Maison du Luxembourg at Brussels.

 

He wrote a theatrical project entitled; “AMBIORIX the wolf king”, founded  on the origins of Belgium, based on the texts of the poet Guy Denis of the Luxembourg Academy and “the Gallic War”.

 

To commemorate the 950th anniversary anniversary of Orval Abbey (Belgium) the Community A Cistercian commissioned a theatrical oratorio from him, L’Or du Val. Created in July 2021. Music by Thierry Chleide | Costumes by Laurence Chapellier (Arts et Métiers ENSAAMA and Paul Poiret School of Paris). A selection of paintings and sketches related to dramaturgy are exhibited at the Museum of the ancient abbey, in the 18th century cellars.

A Decalogue (10 paintings 60/80) and a Via Crucis (17 paintings) constitute a fund belonging to the Orval Abbey (Belgium). An exhibition “Lights of the Crucified” in Gaume » It will take place from April to October. June 2024.

 

À the invitation of Pierre Michel, President of the Friends of the Society; Octave Mirbeau, he writes an article on the Grand Guignol, for the n° 5 of the magazineOctave Mirbeau - Studies and news (April 2024) and painted a Portrait of Octave Mirbeau and The Author and his phantoms (Coll. Pierre Michel, inauguration in Triel-sur-Seine). He works at a show project based on the authors of Le Grand Guignol de l’Impasse Chaptal.

 

The archives of Teatr’Opera are kept at the “Archives and Museum of Literature” (AML) Brussels.
