Like the photographer captures a precise moment, through her drawings, Aurélie Ferrara transcribes moments of life, the interiority.

In black and white, the artist only works with graphite pencil. The variations between clay and carbon allow her an infinite diversity of tones. She superimposes successive layers of lines, which she accentuates or attenuates.

From drawing to drawing, from pencil stroke to pencil stroke, she refines her technique, improves her line to get as close as possible to an expression, an idea … As aesthetic as it is communicative, each model is a reflection of its own sensitivity.

Drawing is often likened to a line, to an outline. However, all of her work aims on the contrary to give depth, volume, contrast, to bring out the expression of a face, and the emotion attached to it.

Aurélie Ferrara was born in 1985 in Landes, southwest France, and has been drawing since she was very young. She became a lawyer, but life brought her back to art in 2018 to become a professional. After living in Bordeaux, she returned to live in the Landes region where her roots are.

The works of Aurélie Ferrara are exhibited today through several emerging events of the contemporary art scene: in France Paris, then Madrid, San Sebastian, Barcelona and Biarritz.

The artist also wants to participate in charitable projects by offering speaking works:

• Association for the fight against Cancer « Battement d’Elles » and its research in complementary well-being (Biarritz)
• Association for the defense of animals (Landes)

I try to translate, through the personality of my models, my own emotions on paper. Each work is the search for a balance between the subject and my own sensitivity.

I like to work from the human, from his life and his expressions. This is the reason why my research focuses on the portrait. Revealing an intimacy, an interiority, poetry … it is this authenticity, so important to me, which motivates me to always go further in my drawings.

The subject's environment being as important as the subject itself, private places are particularly exploited to represent the poetic intimacy of the moment.

It is to concentrate on this aspect of the portrait that I have chosen, among all the creative techniques, the finesse and delicacy of graphite drawing.

I try to make my drawings realistic, but not hyper-realistic. I consider my work to be a balance between photorealism and a delicate drawing style. It is important to me that my work contains the elements of realism but can still be recognized as a pencil drawing.

I appreciate that my drawings are nourished and inspired by real models during my photoshoots or in collaboration with professional photographers. But I also like to deal with imaginary subjects.
