Christian CALMON, an artist forever!
Born in 1961, to a father from the Cathar Country and a Canadian mother from the Great Plains of Saskatchewan, he has and will keep this unconventional mixed spirit.
At 4 years old, he repainted the walls of the bathroom of the family home, being very proud "I painted" he exulted!
At 16, he joined the School of Applied Arts. Free and independent, he just time to integrate techniques and open up possibilities.
Even if necessity dictated that he work as the head of a printing company manufacturing labels for all industries, he continued to search, innovate, and invent in the field of graphic arts.
Recently retired in a setting of nature, water, trees, and freedom, his creativity is abundant, everything he sees is integrated, subject to exploration. Faces are his obsession.
All materials are support, the canvas of course, but also the stump or the abandoned object, the stone and everything that we do not see.
Life is everywhere transcended, modified, transmuted.
The richness of his works is both calm and explosive,
his talent is lived daily.
Christian CALMON integrates faces into his abstract production; indifferently, those close to him, but also those whom his gaze crosses are immediately included in his superpositions of colors, scratches, drips. The techniques are mixed: gouache, acrylic, ink, pastel, gilding... He superimposes, cuts, underlines, suggests, adds, integrates. Everything is a support: paper, cardboard, canvas, plexiglass, everything is a tool: brushes, pencils, felt-tip pens, knives. The themes treated are like the colors: whimsical. Playing with depth, not being afraid to provoke. This need to create is absolute, both suffering and generosity. Through this very unique way of expressing himself, the artist affirms his concern for the ephemeral and the necessary. For the viewer, everything depends on his own perspective and especially on the acceptance of his feelings and emotions unearthed. December 2024
