Discover the contemporary work of Céline Zuretti
I have always drawn. Very quickly, I was drawn by the desire to grasp reality. This quest occupied the first years of my artistic journey. However, over time, my training and the vagaries of life, my perception of reality has evolved to the point of glimpsing the invisible, the subtle. This is what I
tries to translate using gestures and colors in
my abstract and semi-abstract compositions.
My first artistic genre was a rather realistic figurative style. I have long tried to capture everyday life through still life sketches and travel diaries. What stimulated my interest was the present moment, the absence of repentance in the line, the tender imperfection of the forms, the expression of light.
I first worked as a master glassmaker, where color is both light and matter, where I learned that the dark line of lead is never subject to color and vice versa. My steps then led me to a completely different profession. I studied the Japanese language and culture, focusing on the history of craft techniques. I currently teach Japanese and Japanese history at INALCO, in Paris. This heterogeneous cultural background sometimes influences my practice, in which the inky black and bold colors can refer to lead and the colored transparencies of stained glass, as well as to calligraphy, Sumi-e painting or Japanese prints.
My works cross various genres:
-There are semi-abstractions inspired by nature, an interpretative poetry of impressions from the banks of the Marne, a universe where light is symbolized by multiple stars reflecting on aquatic surfaces. The techniques vary, from monotypes to projections, including stencils, made using foliage. Brushes are used to transcribe all kinds of marks to evoke the fauna and flora of this area
dreamlike environment, both aquatic and aerial.
-There are also pure abstractions with which I explore, in a very intuitive way, the notion of spontaneity. In these series, it is about transmitting, through light, color and gestures, the energy of an always interior landscape
changing, often imbued with great spatiality.
