Discover the contemporary work of Charles-Eric Guerrier

Born in Ivory Coast in 1969, I followed my parents to Senegal where my sister was born, then to Cambodia and Vietnam. After a hectic return to France in 1975, we moved around a lot before settling in the Paris region in the early 80s.

After studying architecture, I worked as an assistant director for television for 10 years. In 2007, I became an Interior Designer and started to painting. From 2017 to 2020 I shared my life between the Philippines and France. Covid having passed by, I stopped my activities in the Philippines and in the process left Paris for the calm of Lot. Still an Interior Designer in Paris, I find the space to paint in the heart of Lot.

My sources of inspiration are essentially based on the inner self. Expressing introspection and travel. Leaving is often finding yourself again.

From my lives in Africa and Asia I have kept a strong symbolism that is only expressed through painting. The sobriety of architectural teaching constantly directs me towards a certain minimalism. The strength of symbolism is to say a lot with little expression. Large flat areas that allow you to dive into the material, a certain link with water that envelops and secures. Everyone will find their answers, but the return to the maternal womb makes the act of painting a reassuring and difficult moment. Reassuring because very regressive and difficult because it is a childbirth where I am both the midwife and the childbirth.
