CHASCON

Graduate in visual arts in France, with experience in the fine arts of Bilbao in Spain and holder of an illustration diploma from Santiago de Chile, Chascon shares its influences between a rigorous and formal Europe and avant-garde and spontaneous Latin America.

Chascon drew on his numerous travels and the cultures he encountered to offer illustrations mixing naive art and narrative images.

Founding member of the Chilean, Uruguayan and French collective "COLOR TEMBLOR" and also author of comic strips.

He experiences great difficulty à talk about him to the third person, his biography is therefore short.

Artistic approach

First of all, focus on on the mediums of photography, video and performance; for 10 years my practice focused on remembrance, memory, romantic events and the shocks of break-ups. I was able to explore through interviews, intimate photographic reports and receiving testimonies.

However, in 2018, a health concern transforms my body and my relationship with otherness, forcing me to change. rethink my approach and my mediums used. During all these years in contemporary practice, there were a few elements that I deeply missed: gesture, color and lightness. It was therefore naturally that I turned to towards the illustration. It was a real rebirth that had to be tamed, I had to relearn how to play. "Do" without loading my productions with intention and gravity. Let the form take precedence over the substance.

Today, I work with engraving, acrylic gouache, watercolor, digital and colored pencils to best approach my sources of inspiration such as: nature, spirituality ;, mythologies, solitudes and dreams.
