Discover the contemporary work of Christophe Delory
Christophe has been a photographer for over thirty years. He was born in Paris and is based in France (Paris & Argenton sur Creuse) and Sweden (Stockholm). He started with portraits at the age of ten. He worked for 10 years in fashion and advertising, then ten years in institutions (portraits of researchers), since 2018 he has devoted himself to his artistic work and has chained artist residencies and workshops.
My work questions identity, community, territory and memory.
I call it documentary style, following the definition of Walker Evans (USA 1903-1975). My research focuses on its subjective aspect. I seek to depict the reciprocal reactions of the place, the characters and the photographer. The shot is desacralized to be better mystified. I am not looking for Henri Cartier Bresson's instant T, I situate myself in this space-time of before and during, past and present. My major references are August Sander (Germany 1876-1964) for the portrait and Wright Morris (United States, 1910-1998) for architecture.
In my work the subject is a stakeholder in the photograph, he is a witness to himself. I use the camera as a tool to record a common will, I do not seek to photograph what is hidden, but rather to reveal what is present.
