Discover the contemporary work of D-Volution
Self-taught artist, jack of all trades, tried his hand at art in his early years through volunteer work sites for the restoration of historical heritage, got his hands dirty on paintings and murals to be restored, working with pigments. After passing the competition, he started a school of applied art where he learned the basics of drawing and painting.
But it was by discovering the great masters of Japanese sketching and mangakas that he fell in love with Indian ink and drawing on paper.
Navigating in various currents...
Artist under the pseudonym D-Volution (D-VOL which is pronounced "Devil" phonetically, which translates to "Devil") musician of the underground alternative music scene in Marseille, spent his adolescence ingesting all the references of pop culture and illustrated flyers, concert posters and record covers.
Currently works as a guitar teacher while continuing to make art and music out of passion. "I work on surrealist paintings with the theme of "romantic relationships" at Using fanciful images that draw on the dream vocabulary, I depict small, more or less "dark" scenes that appeal to the observer's imagination, so that they can find an echo of their own life and experiences, using metaphors about the feelings experienced during a romantic relationship. Feelings such as jealousy, envy, desire, lack, anger, incomprehension, happiness and suffering, renunciation, acceptance and many more... The creation of these paintings and my dreamlike illustrations aims to relieve me of an overload of invasive emotions such as impatience, jealousy, anger, frustration... Like a kind of therapy sessions, I try to put to flat my repressed feelings as well as the physical or psychological sensations that they cause in me, through these mediums that are art and music which allow me once again to calm my own demons.
Having made illustrations for the magazine Sang D'Encre on Marseille of which he made the front cover and the back cover, as well as a full-page illustration. He also tries his hand at acrylic on canvas and at mixing genres by combining several techniques in the same work: inks, fine liners, watercolor and acrylic for example. Working in parallel as a guitar teacher, he works in collaboration with his brother for whom he decorates with fantasy illustrations the instruments that his brother builds: Guitars, ukuleles and cajons.
At the moment, he is working in collaboration with the artist and photographer Marie Palmier (aka "Diablesse") in the creation of a project aimed at combining the illustrations and photos of the young woman with the music composed by the two brothers.
Another collaborative project entitled "The Unicorn Club" aiming to produce large format paintings always in a surrealist style, with a synergistic participation of the two artists "D-VOL" and "Diablesse" (Marie Palmier @Artactif/Marie Palmier)
