Discover the contemporary work of Adina Lohmuller
I am a Romanian artist, living and working in France.
I didn't study art, but I owe a lot of what I know to art. my husband Gyuri Lohmuller, a well-known artist.
I mainly work at oil on canvas. I prefer themes like love, childhood, spirituality, history. I work mainly in a surrealist/symbolic style. I like to express emotions like struggle, sadness, emptiness in my life. through the portraits of people, their expressions.
I also like vintage scenes, which make me nostalgic and I try to bring out this past time, the lost innocence and the joy of living that I no longer find again These days. I try to bring out the beauty in old street scenes, people having fun, enjoying life as it is.
À Through my symbolic paintings, I try to show the world in another way, as I see it. Thus, I bring together nostalgic characters in a restrictive, closed environment, to show their lack of freedom. Or, sometimes, my characters are different. the search for the lost world of childhood.
I prefer to work at home. oil on canvas, in the traditional way. I do not use collage or other techniques.
Some other subjects that I have painted are: landscapes (I always look for beautiful light, the time of day when everything is alive, when nature speaks to me), portraits ( commissioned portraits), or still lifes.
In a landscape, I look for beautiful sunshine, shade or an interesting palette: at different times of the day, the play of lights and shadows. Sometimes a single color or the change in tone of the sky reminds me of something or transports me to a state where I feel all kinds of emotions.
In a still life, I appreciate the beautiful shadows, the reflections of the glass or the interesting nuances of different objects. I also like very contrasting objects or very shiny flowers. I try to immortalize the present spaces, a pleasant and warm atmosphere, an elegant location.
I try to paint every day and when I don't, I feel like my day lacks meaning.
