Looking at the world from a different perspective My name is Dimitri. I grew up in Parçay-les-Pins, a small village in Anjou. Coming from a simple family, I learned early on about work and resourcefulness. With my father and brothers, I developed a taste for creating and crafting with my hands. I dreamed of becoming a mechanic, then, at 16, metal became embedded in the palms of my hands. Since then, I have been working with this material, whose ruggedness I appreciate. With patience, I have trained myself in all aspects of ironwork: artistic forging, railways, maintenance, carpentry, locksmithing, and piping. I have loved and still love learning. From veterans, magazines, and experiences. The advice I received has shaped who I am. Mutual aid is of the utmost importance to me. Alongside it, I place care, precision, and fine detail. After an accident that damaged... my eye and opened my eyes, I launched myself as an artist. Leaving aside laborious tasks that sometimes lacked meaning, I decided to listen to what I felt and to trust myself. Overcoming the fear of not being listened to or worse, of being judged, I began to shape metal sculptures. Since then I feel freer, despite the doubts and risks I take. I feel more alive. "I'm still searching." My sculptures want to awaken the instinct that lies dormant within us. They invite us to find balance and contact with what surrounds us. Many things question me, some revolt me: metal allows me to tame anger and express beauty. Matter is, for me, more eloquent than words. Before creating, I reflect. I wait for the idea to form then I cut, I bend, I weld, I assemble the metal pieces to give them life. I heat, I cover and I give them a soul. I choose precisely the place where they are exposed because they dialogue with their environment. I name them carefully, in distant dialects. I sculpt to feel and to make others feel. To direct the gaze toward what has meaning. My work speaks of our interiors: our spirit, our thoughts, and our strengths. I believe in the signs, the meanings, and the symbols that guide us in existence.
Dimitri Bussonnais, ironwork artist My name is Dimitri. I am an ironwork artist. I assemble pieces of metal to form sculptures that speak to us. I shape them to awaken the instinct that lies dormant within us. These sculptures invite us to find balance and contact with what surrounds us. Many things challenge me, some revolt me: the material speaks for me. In my inner silence, I imagine. In the hammering of my workshop, I create. I want to show what nature says, in us and around us. Then, I let it speak.
