Mixed technique

Mixed media includes all works of art that incorporate a variety of materials and components in a single piece. Mixed media art is a work of art that combines acrylic paint with fabric and paper. Scrapbooking, sketchbooks, decoupage, greeting card design, and mixed media art journals are just a few examples of projects in which mixed media can be used. This artistic style dates back to the cubist creations of Pablo Picasso from 1912 to 1914, the root of the term itself, in its aesthetic sense, goes back to the artist Jean Dubuffet in the 1950s.

Description
At the heart of a thriving Eastern market, a blank map of Africa stands out, silent but powerful. It reminds us that African trade began long before the arrival of the West, particularly with the East: Pharaonic Egypt, Sahel kingdoms, Swahili cities... all connected to India, China, and the Arab world since Antiquity. Far from the myth of an Africa "awakened" by Europe, the work reaffirms its role as a commercial and cultural crossroads. With the arrival of the Portuguese in the 15th century, a global trade began in which Africa, despite its wealth, became exploited. The blank map is not empty: it contains the erased stories of peoples, knowledge, and forgotten routes. The market here becomes a metaphor for the world. What place does Africa occupy today in this new globalized order? And how can we reconnect with this memory to reinvent the future?
