Discover the contemporary work of Dominique VIRGILI-WALCH

If painters have carried me, haunted me, shaped me, it was only in 2004 that I dared to confront a canvas, but without ever showing my work, or even signing it... I hadn't gone to art school... Is it a blessing or a curse?
What I know is that today I can't do without painting, I can't do without the emotion and the confusion I feel while painting.
I love the music of colors, the flamboyant, the night, the light, the power of the material, the movement and the spontaneity of the gesture.
I paint at oil.
I admire painters like Egon Schiele, Francis Bacon, Marlene Dumas, but also Rembrandt, Velázquez, Caravaggio, Bonnard...
What guides my painting? I would like to be able to convey the depth of the souls of the characters in my paintings; I would like to bring their emotions, their passions, and their lightness to life...
Why the presence of animals? Foxes, crows, ibises, butterflies, doves... they reflect fantasies.
Faces, mysteries, fears, dreams, enchantments, glances.
My sources of inspiration are diverse.
Depending on the period, my artistic interests, and my preoccupations, I favor thematic pictorial research such as dreamlike wanderings and the intervention of imaginary animals for the most part, or scenes from life such as embraces, filial love, female and male loves, family portraits... I often work with a knife, and my style is close to figurative expressionist art.
For several years, I have also been practicing sculpture using baked and patinated clay. Mainly characters inspired by my travels in Africa or even angelic men or women.
