Discover the contemporary work of Frank Yao
I am a self-taught Franco-Togolese artist. I have studied color work with the Dutch artist ANKE. In Africa I have participated in several exhibitions in galleries in Togo (Michel Factory Gallery, Marina Gallery) or internationally (Fespaco in Ouagadougou, Fighting AIDS exhibition in Cotonou). In France I have participated in several exhibitions, notably in Vendée in the Sénéchal gallery in Lucs-sur-Boulogne at the reg'art show and the metonymy gallery in la roche sur yon artipôle la ferrière 85. At the same time, whether in Togo or in France, I have worked with young associative or school structures to make my artistic work known and/or to raise their awareness of social issues.
For about thirty years, through my assemblages I have been looking at human societies. Through my history I address themes that are dear to me with universal scope such as violence against women and children, the precariousness of young people whose rights and freedom of expression are too often flouted. My sculptural work is based on the assembly of recycled objects.
