Discover the contemporary work of Gilles Merméjean

Born in the south of France, Gilles Merméjean set up his studio in Baillargues two years ago.
A self-taught painter, he creates contemporary atmospheres.
His painting, halfway between figurative and abstract, draws the eye towards universes with multiple movements and harmonious tones.
His works are made with oil paint on canvas and sometimes with the addition of pigments. He seeks the balance between light, colors, perspectives, encouraging everyone to dream.
He often paints with several thin, superimposed layers, thus preserving certain details of his previous work.
The artist immerses the viewer of his paintings in his Horizons where calm, serenity reign, but also, sometimes, the violence of the elements thanks to the movement of the brush.
My artistic approach is above all a quest for light and colors. Each nuance becomes a vector of emotions motivating the imagination.
Through my painting I seek to capture light, soft, bright or twilight, it plays a central role in the balance of the work, drawing spaces and volumes.
The colors respond and collide to create contrasts, bringing a vibrant energy to each painting. The glazes and dilutions of the paint oil paints allow me to accentuate their transparency.
Natural landscapes, sunrises and sunsets feed my inspiration. The changing reflections are moments of pure beauty that I aspire to transcribe on my canvases.
My work seeks to create in the viewer's eye a feeling of escape. With a simple representation, to make everyone be transported into a universe where the splendor of light and the power of colors open the way to an inner journey.
