Franck’s are wonderful paintings! Rich in symbols, it’s true! But for me the strength lies in the entry of several dimensions. Like an open book, the eye scans the canvas, moving from left to right, or from right to left depending on its attraction and its original culture. But also responding to the instinct of the body and the gaze. We look for meaning, for recognizable fragments, until the gaze comes to rest and recharge with recognized and reassuring codes. Since the dawn of time, man has created his graphic language and left his traces on his surrounding universe. He works tirelessly, like an archaeologist, to decipher, list, classify and simplify his acquired treasure. Then he appropriates it and enriches it with his own data. In Franck's paintings, I breathe Africa, a continent battered and in perpetual suffering! Bodies intermingle, piling up in a culture screaming its identity. But globalization crushes everything in its murderous and violent path! The uniformity and invasion of a universal code attempts to bury all particularities and individualities of being. For me this painting is also a committed creation serving to denounce and show. In the right part, Annick Merlin actually points out to us the presence of this blue box. A perfect application of the language of colors! The complementarity of blue and orange places us in a new dialogue. Orange calls the eye to look for blue and vice versa. As for the choice of these 2 colors, for me it is judicious, since the spatial effect of blue transports us to another temporal space where perhaps a glimmer of hope can undoubtedly exist! I don't know what Franck will think of my interpretation, but I find his work incredibly powerful!
