Visual Photographer - Jean LARIVIERE Prize at the Salon des Beaux Arts 2024 (Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris 6)
“Born in 1967, a childhood between Antibes, in the south of France, and holidays in Brittany, a professional career in Paris and across the seas, I now live on the island of Ré, facing the Atlantic Ocean.
My interest in art was initially a gentle sketch, a recreation and a family atmosphere. This taste for aesthetics entered my professional life quite quickly.
Journalist, artistic director, editor, my favorite subjects have always been the image and the words put into rhythm in a text, a model, an assembly, a broadcast or a work.
Then came the time of the temptation necessary to experiment, to to experience it, to practice it. By going through various technical courses and workshops followed in Paris and abroad – a long expatriation in the Middle East between Doha and Beirut – then, as if to legitimize my appetite, by obtaining a degree in visual arts at the University of Paris-Sorbonne.
Life is rarely a long, quiet river, certain trials can shake up our certainties and habits and lead us to finally take a path more in line with our inspirations and our dreams. »
“I give myself total creative freedom, mixing photography, painting and poetry, my imagination in turmoil. The warm-up is in the act of doing, undoing and redoing, like the ephemeral life where everything is movement and transformation. This impermanence of existence should encourage us to live passionately in the present moment and to believe in our dreams. My artistic work is constantly evolving, to the rhythm of ideas, experiments, errors, desires, I try to express this same feeling, to frame in a way to make the imaginary visible, to act on the material, with plastic and digital work to arrive at drawing a work whose forms call to the dream … As if to try to sensitize this effervescent world to the fragility of life. »
Two techniques …
* Photography transferred onto wood and then reworked plastically, inks, pigments, lacquer, acrylic, sanding, chiseling, gold or silver leaf or other experiments until the movement is, which makes the work original and unique.
* Photography reworked and printed on Fine Art Baryta Hahnemühle paper, with a limited edition of 15 copies in all formats.
Series “Loving oneself in all directions” is a series of 8 photographs of one of the most beautiful wild plants in our gardens, the dandelion, which evokes our childhood, joy, movement, transformation, freedom. At the slightest agitation, its fine silks fly away to spread its seeds. Seeds of love. The essence of life.
I am the author of all the photographs.
