NOBODY HERE BUT ANIMALS! They come not singly but in waves, flocks, troops sometimes it feels like an entire migration.... One moment I’m minding my own business fiddling with a lump of clay and the next minute WHAM! the workshop is full of animals. Preening, hunting, stalking, courting, dozing they cover every available surface. How does this happen? And once they're there we have to deal with them. Sweating and swearing and manhandling the brutes in and out of vans, raging and mending and glazing and sulking and finally the sheer panic of firing. But if we do manage to steer them through to the 1000°c finish, they'll make it worth our while : each time it's the best fire-eating, spark-juggling incandescent show of a lifetime!. Itinerary : Born 1955 Lincoln GBStudied languages in SwanseaCame to France in 1976 as part of the language course (Saumur) and discovered clay and firings and and a completely unsuspected aptitude for making little animals.Moved to France permanently in 1979 and made animals for fun, taking them by bicycle to local markets in egg boxes.Three children, one grandson and several thousand penguins, pigs and turtles later, even if the bikes and eggboxes have been replaced by big white vans and heavy crates, and the markets by smart galleries , I’m still making animals for fun. The pieces are taken out of the kiln at 1000° c and covered in sawdust to create a crackled smoked effect.
