Natalya Pyvovarova (Hélène de Tyndare artistic pseudonym): the lasting legacy of a family history Natalya Pyvovarova, a French artist of Ukrainian origin, in Mariupol, was born in Mariupol, a large industrial port city on the shores of the Sea of Azov. The name of the city has since evolved due to its proximity to the Greek colonies of Crimea and the Sea of Azov, hence its current name, "Mariupol", which means "city of Mary" in Greek. Helen of Tyndareus comes from a family with a rich and complex history. Descendants of Polish and Norwegian princes who owned vast estates in Ukraine, Helen’s grandparents were forced to flee Bolshevik nationalization and endure the horrors of the Holodomor in 1932-33. Although he survived these atrocities, her maternal grandfather perished in the gulag, while her paternal grandfather died on the battlefield during World War II. After graduating from an engineering school in kyiv, Natalya embarked on a diverse career that took her to Siberia, Italy, Luxembourg and France. Although self-taught, her passion for painting manifested itself early on, leading her to develop her own unique style of expression. She currently works from her studio in Cannes, France, where She creates vibrant and colorful portraits, landscapes, movements and allegories, each with its own set of stories or hidden messages. Helene De Tyndare’s works reflect her emotional state and she adds an allegorical layer to them, making them rich both figuratively and symbolically. Her paintings blend a non-academic mix of bright colors that recall the works of Nicholas Roerich, a student of Arkhip Ivanovich Kouindji. Her diverse portfolio includes a series of portraits, landscapes, movements, abstract and allegorical paintings, each of them conveying a distinct message and part of a complete story. Natalya’s family history bears witness to 300 years of fierce struggle of the Ukrainian people against Russian occupation. Her artistic creations embody deeply rooted emotions and experiences, drawing on the fundamental human values that underlie Ukrainian and French cultures, as well as the broader goal of preserving and developing the world. The work of Helen of Tyndare, which includes portraits, landscapes, abstract works and allegories, encapsulates her unique vision of the world and its evolution. Her art transcends simple photographic representation, offering instead an allegorical message that invites the viewer to interpret the works through their own perspectives on the contemporary world. Natalya has participated in various international exhibitions, her portraits are part of the private collection of outstanding scientists such as professor at the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and the University of Princeton Sir Michael Francis Atiyah, and current director Max Planck Institute of Mathematics Gerd Faltings. In order to broaden her worldview and better understand the philosophy of geopolitics and the evolution of society in order to reproduce her allegorical works, she enrolled in 2024 in the second year of philosophy at the University of Paris Nanterre. "Art cannot be outside of politics, geopolitics, otherwise it disappears. Art must resist dictatorship, thus building a better future." Helen of Tyndareus
Natalya has a family background associated to two different cultures: French and Ukrainian. Her education and experience include both engineering and the artistic field, with a specific focus on painting. She has a complete experience in design and building construction and layout and, for many years now, she has specialized in photography, sculpture and painting.
