Igor Baloste has been based in Paris since 2007, where he works to explore the possibilities of multimedia interactivity in the service of a purpose independent of technological expectations. In residence from October 2010 to October 2013 at 100 E.C.S in Paris XIIe, he created several works there, including the project LES DESTINEES supported by the Ministry of Culture CNC-Dicréam. This same year 2011 marks the beginning of a desire international with an event exhibition supported by the French Embassy in New York at the LUMEN festival in Staten Island NY, and a one-week stay at Flux Factory (Queens NY), a major collective of New York alternative creation. Igor Baloste also created two program openings for France Culture in 2010 and 2011, since he has a background as a musician (composer, arranger, performer). He has always jointly pursued the activities of visual creator and musician. It is At the time of the Dopebase Collective, a digital visual culture and electronic music crew, Igor Baloste responded to a call for projects from the Roger Tator gallery in Lyon and received a creation grant for an interactive sculpture, the IGORCUBES. After various exhibitions-performance events of this work, at the MAC in Lyon, at the Aponia art center in Villiers/Marne, during festivals such as the Nuits Blanches d'Anemasse, the Electrocirkus festival in Carpentras, he decided to integrate the video projection medium into his work, with the ECODECLAH project. Working with video projection on the one hand, and the camera analysis of the audience's behavior on the other, proved to be a way for him to work on the relationship that can exist between the audience and the meaning of what is happening in the image. Igor Baloste came to multimedia interactivity in a natural way, working in advertising graphics (Illustrator, Photoshop) at a time when print dominated, he moved to Flash with the advent of the internet, and came, even before his move to contemporary art, to create something other than promotional messages, developing "touch-sensitive" universes, with multiple and conditional scenarios. He had followed the path of computer graphics since he graduated from the Faculty of Lyon II, "culture and communication" cycle. We can therefore say that this is a self-taught journey in terms of graphic and plastic techniques, reinforced by a continuous practice of drawing from a very young age, then oil, and at one time clay. The music, jazz and contemporary, that he has explored throughout his career, participate in his improvisational approach, which seeks to provide the public with possibilities of choice, a public considered as an active group and producer of relationships and meaning. Furthermore, his experience of electronic music and digital image collectives also connects him to urban cultures. During his first steps in contemporary interactive art, Igor Baloste associated the visual with the sound to create devices such as TOC, a giant video interactive by the public, projected on the façade of the Théâtre de Célestins during the Fête de la Musique 2008 in Lyon, a collaborative 3D work that would inspire his current work, in terms of the ever-increasing consideration of the collective behavior of the public, and also with regard to the "form", that is to say the use of simple 3D thanks to the Max-MSP/Jitter software.
MAKING ART ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS. MAKING SOMETHING THAT LOOKS AT THE VISITOR WITHOUT OBEYING HIM. OFFERING THE PUBLIC, IN A MIRROR OF THEMSELVES, OTHER HUMAN BEINGS TO SEE AND EXPERIENCE A RELATIONSHIP, POSSIBLE, NOT OBLIGED, WITH THE WORLD ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR. THE VISITOR PARTICIPATES AND IS NOT NECESSARILY INVITED TO USE THE WORK. ALL-HUMAN, SOCIAL, AND INTIMATE COMEDIES TOO. SEEKING TO ESTABLISH CONDITIONS OF COLLECTIVE INTERACTIVITY, DEPENDENCIES BETWEEN VISITORS CONSIDERED AS A TEMPORARY SOCIETY AND YET AGGREGATED BY CONTINUOUS PRINCIPLES, ALREADY ACTIVE BEFORE THE MEETING OF THE WORK, AND PERSISTENT AFTER LEAVING IT. HUMAN BEINGS ARE REPRESENTED SURROUNDED BY AN AURA WHICH MAKES VISIBLE THEIR SUPER POWERS, THAT IS TO SAY THEIR UNREALIZED POTENTIAL, AN AURA WHICH IS AT THE SAME TIME A SEMANTIC AND SYMBOLIC ENVELOPE, WHICH WE WILL SEE IN REAL TIME EXTEND TO FAMILIAR WITH ABSTRACTION, OR RETRACT ACCORDING TO THE MEANINGS CALLED BY THE WORK ITSELF.
