Il n'y a que bien peu de choses qui peuvent briser l'oppressante monotonie de la sombre campagne russe.
Pourtant ! Ici et là ! Désordonnés, à peine plus tangibles que le rêve, s'entêtent quelques irréductibles éclats d'espoirs colorés, haillons décharnés accrochés aux branches d'arbres morts...
Mais parfois ce qui semble porteur de vie, peut devenir malédiction et accablement : lorsque le rouge plonge et trouble les blancs idéaux pervertis, seul la mort fleurira du sang dont s'abreuve sans fin la terre.
La mort alors, oui, comme un précieux don : la paix à laquelle on ne croyait plus, par l'anéantissement.
