JEAN-LOUIS CASSE

Born in 1962 and living in Mas d'Agenais (47), Jean-Louis CASSE is an artist whose career is marked by a deep love for art and a constant quest for light and contrasts. He is passionate and draws his inspiration from the surrounding nature and his memories of travels across France and the world.
A graduate of the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts in the Architecture section (1979-1983), he explores various facets of pictorial art at across three major artistic periods:

- 1991-1996: Surrealism

- 2000s: Watercolors

- 2000-2021: A break in his artistic career, due to his activity as a master of works, devoted to the design and monitoring of architectural projects.

- Since 2021: Return to painting, with a realistic orientation and a predilection for seascapes.

After two decades devoted to After his career as an independent master, Jean-Louis CASSE chose to return fully to his first vocation: painting. This return was motivated by a desire to explore his art further and to reconnect with travel, an essential source of his inspiration. Since then, he has devoted himself to realistic works, mainly seascapes that capture the raw beauty of the coasts and the intensity travel memories.

His works are distinguished by striking contrasts and his sharp technique combines mastery and innovation: he uses extra fine acrylics (Sennelier or Liquitex) on linen or cotton canvases, with finishes allowing for a refined presentation, without framing or in American boxes for an optimal rendering.

At the beginning of his career, Jean-Louis CASSE distinguished himself as a finalist in a painting competition, with an exhibition in the prestigious Chapelle de la Sorbonne in Paris. Subsequently, he exhibited in various galleries and participated in several notable exhibitions in his home region, notably in Bordeaux, Marmande and Tonneins, and in events such as Festiv’Été at Mas d’Agenais.

Artistic approach

Jean-Louis CASSE's art is an ode to light and reflects his love of travel and his sensitivity to seascapes. His world revolves around light and the contrasts he observes in the surrounding nature and during his escapades. Each painting bears witness to his holiday memories across
France and beyond, reflecting an intimate connection with the sea, the sky and the shores.

His seascapes are not simple reproductions of landscapes: they tell stories, evoke holiday memories and reflect an intimate connection with nature. Each painting is an invitation to travel, where the horizon becomes an open door to the imagination. His seascapes are imbued with a particular emotion, which he transmits through plays of light and shadow, giving life to poetic and immersive works. This meticulous and technical work sublimates the details and invites the viewer to travel through soothing landscapes, while discovering the story they carry.

Jean-Louis attaches great importance to his materials: extra fine acrylics offer an exceptional richness of colors, while the carefully chosen canvases (keyed stretcher on linen or cotton), as well as a protective satin varnish guarantee durability and a high-quality rendering. He also pays particular attention to the finishing of the edges of his canvases, allowing them to be presented without a frame for a contemporary effect, or in American boxes to enhance their presentation.

Since 2021, his return to painting coincides with a desire to devote more time to this passion and to the travels that nourish his art. Through his works, he invites everyone to contemplate the raw beauty of seascapes and to feel the deep emotion that emerges from them.

In summary, his art reflects a balance between technicality and emotion, between realism and poetry. It is aimed at all those who seek to contemplate the raw beauty of seascapes while feeling the story they carry within them.
