Discover the contemporary work of Jean Noelmartin

A physicist for many years, I retrained as a painter. My studio is called "La Grange du Vénéon". It is located in the Oisans region, which allows me to paint mountains of exceptional strength and beauty! As well as the habitats and inhabitants of this beautiful region, a source of infinite inspiration!

The basics of elementary physics allowed me to quickly progress in painting technique. Geometry explains perspective! The spectral analysis of light and its wavelengths leads us to color and their intensity, values in painting! Mechanics teach us to see the movement of humans, water, etc.

I paint in acrylic and oil, somewhere between figurative and contemporary. I like to mark contours and force colors with an energetic touch. I like to escape from the model I'm interpreting. I seek expression more than realism, whatever the subject.

So I enjoy quote the great Leonardo da Vinci: "Principles for the development of the mind: Study the science of art, study the art of science. Develop your senses, in particular, learn to see."

I'm currently painting pictures of the mountains, the habitat, and the inhabitants of Oisans. I'm also starting a series of large paintings illustrating humanity's discoveries and inventions. My artistic process is ever-changing.
