Discover the contemporary work of Jean-Louis PATRICE

"In the definition of the Arts, the portrait represents a domain in its own right: either it is a self-portrait and you obtain in painting a character who stares at you with a funny eye; or the artist captures a well-posed or mischievous face and works it meticulously or in broad contemporary touches in order to better define the character. I know some lucky painters who excel at: thus fixing on the canvas or any other support, striking faces, aged or young, by the mastery of a rare talent and an exceptional sense of discovering the character of others. Jean-Louis PATRICE devotes himself mainly to portraiture, but thanks to his skills in industrial drawing, he is one of those for whom Indian ink circulates forever in their veins and brings to at the same time a strange, almost mysterious sense of the definition of the temperament and mood of the model, whether tangible or imagined, seductive or imperious. Indeed, Jean-Louis PATRICE is a painter and the precise unity of the colors of his palette proves it. But he is above all a builder of souls by the line, by this indispensable and instinctive art of the gesture which first digs the path of feelings and expressions. And if the naivety of his naturalness sometimes surprises, on the other hand, he offers interesting successes where the attractive is not necessarily the concern, but they provoke an overwhelming feeling of anxious, mystical, pensive, generous or combative realism, punctuated by judicious impacts of colors. » André RUELLAN, art critic
