Jérôme Poumès

Since his youngest age, Jérôme Poumès has been inexorably attracted to through drawing and painting which he practices several hours a day. It is for him the opportunity to escape from the world around him and to create a universe in which he finds serenity. and satisfaction.
After obtaining a baccalaureate in philosophy and history of Art at Bayonne, he left his native region and studied for two years at the famous art school “Penninghen” rue du Dragon at; Paris and completed his student cycle at the no less famous Charpentier Academy, still in Paris. Paris. In parallel with a successful career as an artistic director in communications, he devotes himself to pictorial expression in various forms and techniques but more particularly in acrylic on canvas with a knife. The practice of his art is a window open to the world around him, far from the tumultuous and competitive daily universe of his activity. as artistic director.

With academic training, painting has taken several directions, going from the figurative to the figurative. the abstract or even in the abstract; a certain form of expressionism. He also benefits from an AKOUN rating as a painter.
The universe it offers is very energetic in nature. through his compositions, his lively style as well as his particularly contrasting tones and rich in nuances highlighting honor a wonderful work on light and objects. His works come from his own experiences and his personal emotions. Above all, he remains an “artist-researcher”, an explorer, always in search of unexplored creative regions, which quite naturally led him to work. à the sculpture.

Indeed, the desire to move from the 2D universe to a that of 3D turns out to be the result of the fascination that has always been felt towards the impact of light on the object, thus creating volume.
This quest for power which characterizes his work on the canvas continues throughout his life. through the carefully chosen, modeled, hammered and patinated shapes of its steel parts, exclusively made by hand. based on recovery materials in an eco-responsible dynamic.
Sculpture having been one of his desires for many years, it was the meeting with the sculptor and ironworker Gilbert Kadysewski that finally decided him to take up sculpture. make your project a reality.

His sources of inspiration are history, human feelings and emotions, mythology, the urban environment or even the beauties of nature to name just a few examples.
For him, there are no boundaries between the various art techniques he practices. Thus his paintings and sculptures feed off each other in a continuous continuity. of research and creative energy, constantly renewed by a mind that is constantly alert and fundamentally curious.

A non-conformist artist at heart and of rare simplicity, he advocates the pleasure of creating in the path of self-fulfillment and this, in all honesty. and humility. For him, the goal must be erased in favor of the sole desire to create. We are not looking to obtain, but rather to create, until’ what is revealed, be even through the work, a certain form of satisfaction and fullness.

Artistic approach

Trained as a painter, I started painting. Around ten years ago, I began practicing the art of traditional coal-fired forging as well as welding. arc on steel.  I of course continue to do so. create abstract and figurative acrylics with a knife on canvas, in a very “lively” style; and dynamic, combining matter, movement and force.
It is this quest for power and movement, characterizing my work on canvas, which gradually led me to create art. towards sculpture. The desire to move from the 2D universe to a that of 3D is undoubtedly the result of the fascination that has always been felt towards the impact of light on the object, thus creating volume and movement.

The choice of steel as a material of expression came very naturally to us. à me because it is this excess of energy necessary for working metal at a time. through the forging and welding techniques that thrill me. It is the act of giving life to something all these pieces through this process, which makes each sculpture unique in its kind. I go from figurative to; abstracts it according to my inspirations and treats all subjects with the same passion for this difficult subject to understand. tame, so powerful but also so sensual and delicate.

As for the sculptures only in steel, I work exclusively in steel. based on recycled materials, in an eco-responsible dynamic.
Knowing that we are giving a second life to something experiencing this metal through one's own creations is all the more rewarding and satisfying.

As part of various creative experiences aimed at bringing steel to life with other materials, I also create pieces in mixed techniques with wood, plaster or even resin.

I consider that there are no boundaries between the various art forms that I practice. Thus my figurative sculptures, my abstract pieces as well as my paintings feed on each other in a continuous continuity. of research and creative energies, constantly renewed by a mind that is constantly alert and fundamentally curious.
