Discover the contemporary work of Jimena Delgado
I was born in Madrid and raised in Bogotá, two cities that, although very different, shaped my worldview and artistic sensibility. My career began with studies in Political Science, which gave me a critical and multifaceted understanding of social structures. However, it was photography that allowed me to find personal expression, giving me the freedom to explore both the visible and the invisible. Returning to Spain to study photography in Barcelona, I discovered my visual language in the convergence between the authorial and the documentary.
My work seeks to capture what goes beyond the obvious. I am drawn to the subtleties and complexities of everyday life. My work explores the intersection between the individual and their environment, revealing hidden layers of reality where the intimate and the collective intertwine. I believe in the power of photography to show what usually goes unnoticed or remains invisible. For me, photography is not only a tool to record, but also to question. It gives me the chance to stop and look with new eyes, as if I were seeing the world for the first time.
My creative research reflects this constant transformation of perception, not to find definitive answers, but to raise questions that expand our understanding of the world. I work primarily with natural light, which becomes a key narrative element in my images. My creative process is born from an intuition or an encounter, from which I explore space, subject and setting. Each image is the result of an interaction, sometimes silent, between my camera and the world I observe.
