Discover the contemporary work of Jlé
BiographyThe painter artist Jlé or Jonathan Lespinasse is not only a young self taught painter from the French town of Toulouse but heis also a graduated contemporary choreographer, who works on body and movementin the constraint of effort, using frenzied rhythms with loose and impulsivemovements. He is looking for “a state of body” very close to fighting or to anorganic dance.“To me, dancing is like a universe of matters, colors, spaces and contrasts, just like painting”That’s the reason why, meanwhile writinghis choreographic works, he’s also working on his plastic art, emphasizing onrelief and depth, movements and strong contrasts.Plastic work was born in that universe ofartistic sensibility.“ The expression of acrylic movementwhere movement and inertia meet, between dizzy height and depths. The signatureof absence. Choreograph matters”JléThe artist’s approachMy inspiration mostly comes from thebody and time; I am extremely sensitive to people and things getting older, wear and tear, oxidation, damage, rot and decay, decalcification, erosion …Time is a key fact in my work.I started painting at the same time as Iworked on choreography; I started painting on my own, leaving instinct andpassion for movement and music on my canvas. I then innocently started tointerpret different elements like water and earth as inspiring influences, whatnaturally led me to think that dance and painting could never be separated.I’m currently only working on acrylic but I often add materials (resin, wood, plastic, earth, sand...) taken from recycling, what I have or get at home, infact, all that enables me to create new reliefs and depth, new mattersTo conclude, I would say that “gravity”is THE essential in my work.
