Discover the contemporary work of Kayser
Born on February 26, 1990 in Reims (France), Josselin Kayser is a sculptor and engraver steeped in urban culture. But before working with stone, he was heading towards a completely different field: he planned to become an architect's assistant. Being a creative person and a fan of manual work, Kayser quickly realized that this path was not the right one: he can hardly imagine his daily life in front of a computer screen. It was while looking for training in the arts and crafts that he discovered stone cutting.
After obtaining two diplomas in this field, he found his place in a workshop dedicated to the restoration of historical monuments in Reims and the Champagne-Ardenne region for 10 years. He also ensured the maintenance of many buildings in the City of Coronations, including the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral. However, the artistic dimension of his work came to him later. He, who used to scribble in his notebooks, engrave his skateboards and let his creativity speak in the street, created his first work of art on stone in an unexpected way.
After discovering a piece of marble abandoned in his workshop, he began to sculpt a piece to form a Nike Stefan Janoski sneaker, a skater model. This activity allowed him to merge his two passions: the art of sculpting stone and street culture. This experience is only the beginning of a beautiful adventure.
Today, Kayser continues to highlight in his works a street culture that has for too long been seen as the antonym of beauty, the enemy of art. His productions prove to us that urban culture is completely compatible with the "noble" artistic practices usually appreciated by the general public.
His love for skateboarding (which he practiced for more than 15 years) remains his main inspiration. With each new creation, the artist puts more attention to detail into his work and constantly seeks to improve himself to create works that are both faithful to reality and to his artistic approach. Moreover, the creation of a work requires up to 45 hours of precise and rigorous work.
Kayser exhibited his world and his works to the public for the first time during an exhibition at La Mine de Reims, as part of the artists' workshops. After this event, Kayser chose to exhibit his talent at the Galerie Parallèle. His personality and his unique works, inspired by urban culture, allow him to stand out from the sculptor artists we usually meet in France.
