Artistic approach

Hello,

My name is Kostyan Figastyan. I am a woodcarver from Russia. Recently I came to France and settled in Pailhes, Ariège. I think some of you might be interested in my work, so I want to tell you a little about it.

I carve large wooden sculptures from whole tree trunks, but not only. I also create unusual miniature carved objects such as hair combs, spoons and smoking pipes. In my work I am constantly improvising, feeling the material and never knowing what the final piece will look like. My works are usually abstract, reflecting the time and place of their creation, as well as the emotions I feel while making them.

I prefer to work with unique material that I find on my path. Some of my sculptures exceed 5-3 meters, which requires tree roots or trunks to create them. I often use found wood or fallen trees in parks to give them a new life. The time spent on a project depends on the type of wood, size and other factors. A small object can be made in one day, while a large sculpture can take several months.

To get an idea of what I can create, you can visit my website and Instagram, where I share my projects and work process:

Kostyan.
