Discover the contemporary work of Le géomorph
Stephane Thomat - Le géomorph
Self-taught French contemporary artist.
His field is research on the appearance of geological formations.
His strength is his fascination with the textures of rocks and the appearance of mountain ranges that seem dominated by chance and chaos but are governed by the infinite complexity of natural causes.
Captivated by peaks, ridgelines and valleys, Stéphane first filled his sketchbooks with them, always experimenting with new perspectives. He also studies textures at through different supports, including leather, to find various rocky aspects.
He finally discovered the incredible capacity of paper to express the visions within him. His process, both spontaneous and intuitive, is inspired by the contingency of geological formations.
Through his technique on paper, coupled with airbrush painting, he gradually moved away from texture and slipped towards its representation. The play of light and shadow, brings out the reliefs that seem to emerge from the depths of the flat matter.
He imagines new universes and invites us to the deep and poetic exploration of his visions.
In these unknown worlds, lost in space and time, no trace of life. Here reigns the absolute calm of the mineral.
On these deserted lands, the eternal mountains freeze like symbols of resilience in the face of the frenzy of our daily lives.
These works illustrate the infinite variety sterile worlds that fill our universe in which the miracle of life has nevertheless emerged.
I imagine hostile and deserted lands dominated by the mineral kingdom which remind us of our vulnerability and our lightness.
