Discover the contemporary work of Lilou
Lilou, a young painter, became a professional in February 2023 after an atypical career that reflects her deep passion for art. Initially intended for a medical career, she obtained her scientific baccalaureate in 2020 with the ambition of becoming a doctor. However, on the first day of the medical school year, Lilou realized that her true vocation lay in painting. She then decided to stop everything to devote herself fully to her art.
Initially, Lilou moved towards artistic education, obtaining her BAFA and carrying out a Civic Service with the aim of becoming a visual arts teacher. It was during this period that she decided to pursue studies in visual arts, where she solidified her knowledge of art history, a passion passed on by her grandmother since childhood. At the same time, she refined her technique and developed her own artistic approach.
After successfully completing her third semester, Lilou became a professional and began exhibiting her works. First on the local scene, then at the national level, she gained notoriety and attracted the attention of a European audience thanks to her participation in the contemporary art fair Art3f. With these experiences, Lilou continued to climb the ladder, reaching an ever-wider audience and asserting her unique artistic identity.
Lilou is a painter based in Strasbourg, characterized by her unique works that combine traditional and contemporary techniques. She mainly creates paintings on canvas, which she finishes with a layer of resin to bring a particular depth and shine to her creations.
Lilou draws her inspiration from the works of great masters such as:
– Henri Matisse, particularly his “Jeannettes”, a series of female portraits that explore form and metamorphosis with remarkable elegance.
– Vincent van Gogh, whose expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colors are reflected in Lilou's dynamic, textured compositions.
– Salvador Dalí, whose surrealism and overflowing imagination influence the fantastical and sometimes dreamlike elements that can be observed in Lilou's works.
Once her painting is finished and completely dry, Lilou applies a layer of transparent epoxy resin. The resin not only protects the painting but also adds depth and luminosity, transforming the surface into a mirror-like shine.
This technique gives a new dimension to the work, accentuating the details and colors. By resinating her works, Lilou flirts with three-dimensionality, in this way, she seals not only the painting but also the moment of inspiration and expression, thus offering viewers a unique visual and tactile experience.
Lilou is a brilliant example of how contemporary artists can reinterpret and revitalize techniques and styles from the past to create works that are both respectful of their predecessors and innovative.
