Artistic approach

I paint and draw a tragi-comic world where beauty "classic" disappeared, populated of grotesque and ghostly bodies. These wandering bodies are the representatives of absent bodies that their clothes often embody, intercessors between the missing and the living.
They are a bit like conscience awakeners, haunting characters and settings, whispering what cannot be said.

There are still portraits, there are still bodies that drawing recycles and makes fun of for the benefit of harmless chimeras.
In these traces a universe is recreated, the starting point of inspiration. The figures who populate this universe seem to find themselves in a state of astonishment between interior and exterior, between fiction and reality. or immersed in the unconscious and the dream.

I take photos that help me understand. draw my inspiration from reality; that surrounds me.
Hand-drawn portraits starting from unknown people and others, close or familiar, crisscross the compositions in a game around resemblance, or move away from it and only expression then counts. They appear or disappear throughout the work creating an architecture of the intimate.

The same character could be used in different ways. several times and thus constitute a series where composition, colors and techniques vary. For example, drawing the ink of a man on a bench appears in a first composition (mixed techniques) then becomes the central character of 3 works: the first is a drawing in colored pencils (visible on Instagram), the second a work at ink (in this file) and the third an oil on canvas (also presented on Instagram).

Thus one work generates the next, in a repetition that is in no way iterative, but rather like a movement oriented towards towards the front, where time slows down: an attachment and possession of the drawing are then created which nourishes the expression.

These humans drawn mixed with representations of simple simplicity. which appears childish, route the tragic and organize scenes where in a zany harmony, the frightened, the funny and the living come together and end up getting along.
They are accompanied by a whole bestiary, various objects, food, utensils... as well as words (for example the drawing “the dead don’t die”) which are integrated as graphic elements and through the meaning they carry.

The settings take shape and are embodied in a landscape offering a near and a distance through a perspective, or remain imaginary, sometimes disappearing in favor of 39;s more neutral background. Decorative elements and characters can move from a painting to another. the other, giving a different orientation to the the image.

This quest for characters and/or portraits and their situations in the face of their lives, their suffering and ultimately their disappearances, is the very heart of the axis that my work follows, which asserts itself as the exploration of the unvarnished intimate .
