Discover the contemporary work of Louise de Gastines
French artist Louise de Gastines expresses her passion for form and color through the creation of unique ceramic pieces. She imagines, sculpts, enamels and fires these pieces in her studio immersed in nature.
Since the 2000s, her training has offered her a wide range of artistic techniques. These internships with Kuntzel and Deygas, Sylvie Lapidouse, Niki de St Phalle ... delight her and push her to join a model-making and prototyping workshop where she learns to mastering color creation and airbrushing.
First an apprentice, she joined the Industrial Design section of the Greta de la Création, du Design et Métiers d'Art in Paris.
Fueled by self-taught, the artist became interested in clay sculpture. The technical and organic dimensions of this material challenged her and invited her to push her limits, harmonizing her intuition and perfectionism.
Fascinated by the richness of nature and human anatomy, obsessed by the circle, Louise creates sculptures that question the representation of reality and whose associations are intriguing. Her funny and surreal compositions express her mystical vision and the uniqueness of her instinctive process.
With a certain minimalism, she gives birth to the shapes of the base and devotes meticulous care and extreme precision to the modeling and polishing of her works. The texture of the bare earth made luminous, porous and sensitive, as well as the vivid colour of the enamel glaze, create powerful counterpoints.
Observing the work from different angles, the reflection on the geometric shapes, the play on the contrast of smooth and melted, enamelled and raw surfaces, reveals a mixture of strength and tenderness.
