Discover the contemporary work of Mā
Multidisciplinary artist, Mā Thevenin explores the relationships between the body, space and time through her work. through several mediums. Visual artist, architect and performer, she creates paintings, sculptures, land art installations and dance performances, offering the fruits of a polymorphous research between theory and practice.
Since 2007, Mā has dedicated itself to; an artistic practice - nourished by his career in architecture between 1986 and 2007, whereù she collaborates with different agencies, evolving in a complex environment interacting with various players in construction and urban planning.
The encounter with phenomenology and oriental philosophies marks a turning point in his career. She then explores bodily practices such as contemporary dance, Zazen meditation, taï-chi-chuan and martial arts. From 2012 to 2020, she trained in Butō with Atsushi Takenouchi, Sumako Koseki and Yumiko Yoshioka.
Mā has been exhibiting since 2009 and creating dance performances linked to her In Situ installations.

Paintings, sculptures, installations and performances showcase the void as a set of relationships; the body as a place of meeting, imbalance and imbalance between the different frames of reference where consciousness moves.
Each painting is the “solution ” alchemical and the equation of an encounter with a place, a moment, a human and non-human presence through the elements taken from the surrounding environment. It expresses a continuity between the organic and mineral worlds, microcosms and macrocosms.
Open door and crossing of spaces, woven from of suspended pauses and meditative breathing, the materiality of even each painting resonates with our body – its hybrid composition reminds us that we are made of the same dust atoms as the cosmos itself; the breath of life that animates us remains free and invisible.
Imprints and fragments of time, pieces of a cosmic puzzle, fossils of a space here and now, each painting evokes an evocative meaning. both a virgin original space, the utopia of an Edenic relationship to our environment; and at the same time the tension, at the very moment of the encounter, with the simultaneous loss.
Relics of a nature on the verge of disappearing or mutating, my paintings evoke this dream of osmosis with the cosmos of which our embryonic memories secretly keep the imprint; Together they form variable and kaleidoscopic devices, evolving and customizable assemblages that each collector can experience.
