Discover the contemporary work of Ma2l
Marie-Agnès Louise LAFFON, known as Ma2l for my stage name. I was born in Algiers in 1961.
From my initial training as a social worker, I would have ultimately used only the Spirit: a certain sense of the common good, an ability to do "more or better" with what we have, and a strong commitment wherever I have been.
"Permitted Artist" in my spare time, I will experiment over time with multiple supports: fabrics, mosaics, stained glass windows, etc.
Whatever the material, I am always at the service of an assembly, a construction.
Little by little, paper has become established. It is a material that can be found everywhere. Today, it is my "flagship" support as I commit myself full-time to the path of creation.
For a long time, I did not allow myself to recognize myself as an artist because I am a stranger to this environment and have no artistic education. It is a path that took me 30 years to travel.
Art brut, which I claim to be, is also the art of self-taught people, a spontaneous, modest art … All forms of singular art are movements that make me vibrate and create emotion in me.
For me, creating is a journey between materiality and the spiritual.
I like to explore different avenues of paper: torn paper, woven paper, … crumpled, … cut out... Papers that I like to stick on all types of support.
I work with the materials that fall into my hands: magazines, packaging, chocolate wrappers, newspaper … I recycle!
Absurd or intriguing, my works reveal new horizons, make you taste the salt of the unusual, make you breathe a light air.
The choice of my subjects is the result of my impulses. If I sometimes start a new collage because I have a subject in mind, it is most often an image that will lead to a new composition.
