Marcelo Bottaro, born in 1958, nationality: Italian and Venezuelan, lived and worked in Italy. in Italy for more than ten years, while maintaining a link between Rome, Bologna and Venezuela. He has now settled in. in France in the Lot region.

From 1973 to 1976 he studied at the “Arturo Michelena” à Valencia (Venezuela).

In 1977 he moved to the city of Cumaná (Venezuela), where he specialized in painting and sculpture under the aegis of the “Nueva Visión” d' Alexis Mújica and Vladimir Puche. After numerous collaborations with galleries and institutions, he began the study of graphic techniques and engraving. University from Bogotá and at the Segra Institute in Caracas.
 

In 1985 he won the Salon of the Ayacucho Museum of Cumaná (Venezuela).

In 1986, he produced a vast production of painting and sculpture exhibited at the Grand Mariscal Museum of Ayacucho de Cumaná and at the National Gallery of Caracas.
From 1989 to 1992, in Colombia he continued his research and teaching through video conferences with the title: “The latest trends in sculpture-installation of the last 10 years in Latin American art” Rican» from the University Jorge Taddeo Lozano, from the University National and the National Gallery of Bogotá (Colombia).

From 1993 to 1998, he returned to Venezuela to the island of Margarita where he lived. he works as a professor of visual perception at the Faculty of Architecture Polytechnic Santiago Mariño. Still on the island, he participates in the annual Fondene Show, in addition, is selected among artists of great caliber like Jesús Soto, Fernando Botero, Harri Habens, to participate in the VII Biennial of Sculpture and Installation, organized by the Francisco Narvaez Museum and the Washington Modern Art Museum.

In 1999, he stayed in Martinique where he lived. he has produced various exhibitions in prestigious institutions, including the Atrium Cultural Center, the Madiana Cinema Center and the Clément Art Gallery. In 2000, he stayed at Paris to enrich his research and met the prestigious Henri Selmer company, leader in the manufacture of musical instruments, which commissioned an important work from him.

In 2000, he arrived at Rome, where he collaborates with Francesco Corica from STUDIO CROMA. He is selected by the Venezuelan Embassy to exhibit with a painting and sculpture collective “Foreign Artist Abroad” Rome» at the National Gallery of Modern Art.

Between 2002 and 2003, he collaborated as Artistic Director for the agro-tourism «Casella» in Umbria. Also in 2003, he participated in; Lyon à; a collective exhibition of Venezuelan artists recognized internationally. international level like Pancho Quilici and Octavio Herrera.

In 2004, he collaborated as an actor in a docu-fiction called “The bridges of a painter”, produced by in different Italian cities with direction by Mauricio Fallini (first prize for photography from the Central University of Venezuela).

Between the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2005, he produced and exhibited the series entitled "The Warriors of the Sun", at the Palazzo Margutta in Rome. He also works as a production assistant at next to it of the great Venezuelan architect, sculptor and painter Jorge Castillo (National Architecture Prize), for the realization of the sculptural project in homage to the oath made 200 years earlier, by the Libé missor Simon Bolivar at Monte Sacro at Rome.


At the beginning of 2007, he received recognition from the Italian Institution ENAP (national public body serving artists) and from the Pio Instituto Catel Foundation at the start of 2007. Rome. Also this year, he collaborated with with Maprosti & Lisanti for the publication of a book which retraces his artistic journey in Italy and whose texts have been published. Written by the historian Aldo Caterino. Marcelo Bottaro was selected to be interviewed by the cinema studies department of RAI International, to participate in the program “Here we speak Italian” dedicated to to foreign artists in Italy, presenting the “Action Painting Jazz” project.
In 2007, under the sponsorship of the Province of Rome, the Embassy and Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Latin American Institute of Rome and with the support of ENAP institutions and the Instituto Catel, he began the project of a pictorial installation composed of twelve large canvases. While continuing his personal artistic research, his work broadened towards the realization of varied projects including the creation of a series of iron sculptures with the title “Boomerang” and the “Action Painting Jazz” project, which combines painting, music and dance.

In 2009, the book “Mr. Bottaro» is presented at the same time as a personal exhibition held at the prestigious Central Park Hotel in Rome with the participation of the painter Ennio Calabria. Also in 2009, Marcelo Bottaro founded the Almalibera Cultural Association. À through the work of the Cultural Association it has been possible to develop a pictorial and multimedia project. We carry out the Zero proofs: four 2 x 2 m canvases. With the participation of Dr. Francisco Bottaro, the choreographer Salvatore Spagnolo and the students of the University of Rome. The Sapienza of Rome.
 

In 2010, we inaugurated the preview of the multimedia project at the headquarters of the Almalibera association in Barcelona. Rome. Shortly after, the Almalibera association moved to the city of Bologna, beginning the pictorial project and creating the first 6 monumental works measuring 2.60 x 1.90 m. He exhibits at the Galleria 120 à; Rome, and in other group exhibitions organized by the publisher Eli Sassoli De’ Bianchi àgrave; Bologna.
 
At the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011, he produced the personal exhibition of Marcelo Bottaro, and presented the multimedia project not yet completed, at Noho Ricerca in collaboration with Arte Fiera OFF, Bologna.

Between July and November 2011, the project works were completed. The first phase of production takes place at the end of the year. “ La Casella» –Eco Country Resort– in Umbria, funded by President Luciano Nena, ENAP, Instituto Catel Pio in Rome. The second phase of the project was developed in his Bologna workshop. Exhibition of the project “EPICA, MITO Y ESTETICA EN LA OBRA NUETRAMERICANA DE MARCELO BOTTARO: LAS DOCES BATALLAS DE SIMON BOLIVAR UN HOMBRE CONTRA EL IMPERIO” and the performance «RAIZES ANCESTRALES»/«RACINES ANCESTRALES», presented together with the collaboration of Lucia Geraci at the GAN –Galeria de Arte Nacional – of Caracas, by Juan Calzadilla, in collaboration with the Institute of Italian Culture of Caracas.
Also in 2013, he exhibited «Prehistoria y Futuro», at the «Country Club Golf Rodeca», Valencia (VE) and at the art gallery «Art Project», MIAMI (FL), USA. Marcelo Bottaro lives and works in Monte San Pietro (BO) and continues his artistic research dedicated to the “Prehistory and Future” series; and the “Anatomy Journey” project. Finally, he carried out the sculptural project with the title "Boomerang", Valencia (VE).

In 2014 he painted the series: «La fabrica dei Sogni», limited series in acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

In 2015 he exhibited at; CASA LEONARDI in Bologna

In 2016, he produced the live painting performance NOTTI PER SOGNARE at the Circolo Antico Tiro al Volo in Rome. Rome is preparing the creation of an exhibition under the supervision of Cesare Biasini, with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.


In 2018, he decided to settle in the South West of France, in the famous medieval village Saint Cirq Lapopie  where he concretizes his  artistic project "Prehistory and Future" with a series entitled "Human Geography of Life"...

On October 27, 2018 he made a donation to the embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in PARIS of a work from the private collection of the 12 Battles, entitled "El Chimborazo"
On June 3, 2019, exhibition of artists and indigenous people from Latin America and the Caribbean in Paris. UNESCO in PARIS.
