Discover the contemporary work of María Martínez Araujo
I started I started painting self-taught more than 20 years ago, as a form of relief. At that time I was working as a social educator in a women's shelter in the province of Barcelona and I felt the need to put order in my head through painting. In this way I began I began to paint structures, formed by frequencies, that allowed me to maintain inner harmony and connect with my center to continue with this work activity that sometimes absorbs so much. For a time I dedicated myself to to experiment with other techniques and other styles, as well as I like to use other supports, such as the flat tile of the Pyrenees (a place I moved to 14 years ago), or a wine barrel, belonging to the EMINA winery in Valladolid, who organized the event. A joint exhibition whose common thread was the use of this support and which, later, became part of the exhibition at the Wine Museum located in the Peñafiel Castle, Valladolid. My upbringing made me withdraw from painting for a time, although not from creative work since, I believed, a line of aprons for adults and children with sewn drawings, whose common thread was the same as in the painting: COLOR and PASSION. Now, work in the social sphere keeps me in connection with people and painting reconnects me with my inner world, covering my need to express, transmit and, above all, draw out.
I have a style that is difficult to pigeonhole. I consider myself an eclectic person who paints to meet his need to express himself graphically. I like to experiment with techniques and materials, with COLOR and PASSION being the guiding thread of my work.
On the one hand, I make paintings made up of frequencies that connect us with that essential internal part that needs to feel peace, calm, serenity and harmony. That make us enjoy the present moment by focusing on ourselves. These are structures that start from a circle, in most cases, and expand in an orderly and free manner, using color in a daring way and letting us feel peace in the spirit. p>
Painting covers my need to express, transmit and, above all, extract. It helps me put order in my head
